The Hecht's World Travels

Before the girls were arrived, we did quite a bit of traveling.  Most of our travels in the United States was either to St. Louis or Chicago, or work related.  Below you will find brief descriptions about trips we have taken, along with links to pictures from the trips (links are to the left of the trip descriptions.  I hope that we can give you just a taste of what we have gotten to experience.

In March 2005 we took our first trip to China (first trip for me, and first time back to China for Jing.  Jing's parents, my mom, my sister, my Aunt Joni, and my good friend Garth all went on the trip.  We spent a week in Shanghai and a week in Beijing.  Our week in Shanghai included a traditional Chinese wedding banquet.  The trip was absolutely amazing.  We had such a great time.  It was a wonderful experience for everyone.  Getting to meet Jing's family in China was a great experience.

The trip to China came right before we got married.  With so many friends and family members with us, it wasn't really like a honeymoon.  Shortly after we were married, Jing and I embarked on what we called a "MINI-Moon".  In this case, MINI refers to our MINI Cooper S Convertible that we purchased in June 2005.  The day we took delivery on the MINI we drove to Napa, CA.  We spent several days in Napa and San Francisco visiting wineries, exploring San Francisco, and visiting Jing's friend Jen (she was Jing's maid of honor).  After the San Francisco valley, we drove down the Pacific Coast Highway to Carmel By the Sea.  We stayed right on the beach and had a wonderful experience.  The last leg of our trip took us further down the PCH to Santa Barbara.

Our next trip out of the country came in June 2006.  Jing and I went on a Contiki Tour (for 18-35 year olds) to the UK and Ireland.  We spent a little over two weeks exploring England, Scotland, and Ireland.  It was a great trip that included lots of sight seeing and adventures (including haggis, black pudding, and other culinary delights).  Our favorite stop on the trip was Edinburgh, with Dublin being a close second.

Our most recent long distance trip was back to China in November 2006.  The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce put together an all-inclusive tour of China for a very reasonable rate.  We couldn't pass up the deal.  The tour went to many of the same places we visited, but it also took us to a couple of new places (new for me, not so new for Jing).  The trip was a lot of fun.  We were also sure to meet up with Jing's family again when we were in Shanghai.
